The RJC-CoC label, for an ethical and sustainable gold
This was one of 2024's biggest objectives: we are very proud to now use recycled, RJC-CoC-certified 24k gold for the gilding of our jewelry.
The company supplying this gold is based in the Lyon region of France. This company is certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), a label that may be little known to the public, but is a true standard that provides valuable guarantees to consumers.
What is the RJC-CoC label and what is its purpose?
The Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC) is a global non-profit organization founded in 2005. Its main objective is to certify the best practices of companies in the jewelry industry in terms of ethical, social and environmental responsibility. In practical terms, the RJC label guarantees consumer transparency across the entire supply chain: it provides information on the origin of raw materials, guarantees employee working conditions and attests to reduced ecological impact.
CoC (Chain of Custody), the RJC chain-of-custody standard : this complementary standard to the RJC is voluntary. Its aim is to encourage and promote the use of responsible sourcing by providing companies with a range of recommendations.
How to obtain certification
To obtain RJC certification, each company must undergo a strict 3-year audit.
The code of good practice is updated regularly, according to demand and needs. For example, it takes into account the United Nations' guiding principles, the reinforcement of requirements regarding the origin of diamonds, gold and silver, and the addition of additional sections applicable to the mining sector.
All this data changes regularly, which means that the RJC Code of Best Practice also needs to be adapted.
